Swathi Sangeethotsavam is a week-long festival of music celebrating the compositions of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal. The festival is held from in January every year at the courtyard of Kuthira Malika, Trivandrum. It pays homage to Swati Thirunal by devoting the entire festival to his compositions.[1] The concerts are not ticketed. The festival is conducted by Rama Varma Maharaja of Travancore Trust under the helm of Prince Rama Varma.[2]

At the Inaugural function of the music festival at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, P Obul Reddy and P Gnanambal Memorial awards for Lifetime Achievement were conferred to Veena exponent E Gayathri and vocalist Bombay Jayashri.

Veena exponent E.Gayathri is the first Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University. Hailing from a musical background, she is the disciple of Sangita Kalanidhi T.M.Thyagarajan. Gayathri has received several awards and titles that include Sangeet Natak Akademi and Kalaimamani award.

Disciple of T.R.Balamani and violin maestro Lalgudi Jayaraman, Bombay Jayashri is an established musician who has had the privilege to perform at The Royal Opera House, Durban. She is also a playback singer and has penned and performed the lyrics for “Pi’s Lullaby”, which was nominated for the 2012 Oscars in the Best Original Song category. She was also featured in the first full length Carnatic music film ‘Margazhi Ragam’.
